Privacy Policy

We're committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data.

1. Who We Are

Afterly is operated by Afterly LLC, a Delaware limited liability company ("we," "us," or "our"). Our registered address is 2810 N Church St PMB 748413, Wilmington, Delaware 19802. You can reach our privacy team at contact@afterlysocial.com.

This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you use the Afterly mobile application (Bundle ID: com.afterlyapp) and related services.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

  • Account information: username, email address, date of birth, password
  • Profile information: photos, bio, gender identity, sexual identity, presentation type, pronouns, body type, and other profile fields you choose to fill in
  • Discovery preferences: age range, distance, looking-for settings, and similar filters
  • Messages and chat content exchanged with other users
  • Payment information processed via Apple App Store or Google Play Store (we do not store raw card data)
  • Identity verification images submitted for AI verification (not retained after processing)
  • Photos shared privately within the app
  • Reports and feedback you submit about other users

Information collected automatically:

  • Device information: device type, operating system, unique device identifiers
  • Advertising identifiers: your device's advertising ID (iOS IDFA / Android AAID), used to show ads and, where you've consented, to personalize them — see "Advertising" below
  • Log data: IP address, access times, pages viewed, actions taken in the app
  • Location data: GPS coordinates (when permission is granted) for distance-based discovery
  • Usage analytics: feature interactions, session duration, crash reports
  • Push notification tokens for delivering notifications

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and manage your account and profile
  • To power discovery features — matching you with nearby users based on your preferences
  • To facilitate real-time messaging and video/voice calls between matched users
  • To process subscription payments and manage Pro membership benefits
  • To send push notifications about matches, messages, and app activity
  • To enforce our Community Guidelines and investigate reports of abuse
  • To help protect our community, we may use automated technologies, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, to analyze messages, profile content, reports, and account activity for indications of spam, scams, fraud, harassment, exploitation, solicitation, threats, or other violations of our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. These systems may flag content or accounts for human review and may support temporary safety restrictions while a review is conducted.
  • To verify user identity and moderate profile photos using AI tools
  • To show ads to free-tier users, and — only where you've consented (e.g. via Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, or Google's consent form in the UK/EEA) — to personalize which ads you see
  • To improve app performance, fix bugs, and develop new features
  • To comply with legal obligations and respond to law enforcement requests
  • To send you product updates, new features, and promotional communications via email or push notification. You can opt out of marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email
We never sell your personal data for money. Some ad partners may, under California and other state privacy laws, be considered a "share" of personal information for advertising purposes — see "Advertising" and "Your Rights & Choices" below for how to opt out.

4. How We Share Your Information

We share your information only in the following limited circumstances:

  • With other users — your profile information (photos, bio, location city, age) is visible to other users as part of normal app functionality. Private photos are only shared with users you approve.
  • Service providers — we use Supabase (database/auth), Stream (chat/video), RevenueCat (subscriptions), PostHog (product analytics), and Expo (push notifications). These providers process data only as directed by us.
  • Advertising — we use Google AdMob to show ads to free-tier users. AdMob may use your advertising identifier and other device data to select and measure ads, and to personalize ads where you've consented. Pro subscribers are never shown ads.
  • Legal compliance — we may disclose information to comply with applicable law, court order, or government request.
  • Safety — we may share information to prevent imminent harm to a person or to enforce our Terms of Service.
  • Business transfer — in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred to the acquiring entity.

5. Advertising

Free-tier users see ads served through Google AdMob; Pro subscribers never see ads. By default, ads are non-personalized — shown based on general context, not your personal data or activity.

  • On iOS, we ask for permission via Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt. If you allow tracking, ads may be personalized based on your activity across apps.
  • In the UK and European Economic Area, we use Google's consent management form before requesting any personalization, in line with applicable law.
  • Everywhere else, and any time you decline the above, ads remain non-personalized.
  • You can turn off ad personalization at any time — even after previously allowing it — from Settings → Privacy & Safety → "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information," or via your device's own ad settings (iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking; Android: Settings → Ads).

6. Location Data

Afterly uses your device's GPS to show your distance to other users and power nearby discovery. Location is used only while you use the app (foreground permission). We store your last known latitude and longitude to calculate distances server-side. You may disable location access in your device settings at any time — this will limit discovery features but will not affect your ability to use the app otherwise.

Your precise coordinates are never shown to other users. Only your approximate city or neighborhood is displayed on your profile.

7. Your Rights & Choices

  • Access — you may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction — you may update your profile information at any time within the app
  • Deletion — you may delete your account from Settings → Delete Account, which removes your profile and associated data
  • Portability — you may request a machine-readable export of your data
  • Objection — you may opt out of certain processing by adjusting app settings (e.g., disabling location, turning on incognito mode)
  • Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information — turn this on from Settings → Privacy & Safety to stop your data being used for ad personalization, regardless of any tracking permission you previously granted. Available to everyone, everywhere, not just California residents.
  • California residents — California law (CCPA/CPRA) grants additional rights, including the right to know, delete, and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising — see the option above
  • Marketing opt-out — you may unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time via the link included in each email, without affecting your ability to receive transactional or account-related messages

To exercise any of these rights, email contact@afterlysocial.com. We will respond within 30 days.

8. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, photos, matches, and messages within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. Anonymized usage analytics may be retained indefinitely.

9. Children's Privacy

Afterly is not intended for users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect information from minors. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will terminate their account and delete associated data. If you believe a minor is using Afterly, please report it to contact@afterlysocial.com.

10. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including TLS encryption in transit, encrypted storage at rest via Supabase, and role-based access controls for our team. However, no system is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to report any suspected security issues immediately.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via in-app notification or email at least 7 days before they take effect. Your continued use of Afterly after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
